ANCIENT HERITAGE
More than seven hundred years of Nasrid rule left an indelible mark on Granada. The Alhambra, the supreme jewel of Islamic art, crowns the Sabika hill like a dream made of stucco, water and light. Its palaces, courtyards and gardens tell the story of a civilisation that turned beauty into a way of life.
At its feet, the Royal Chapel safeguards the remains of the Catholic Monarchs, while the Renaissance Cathedral rises like a hymn in stone. Islamic and Christian pasts merge here seamlessly, offering visitors a living lesson in coexistence.
NEIGHBOURHOODS WITH SOUL
The Albaicín unfolds its white maze on the hill facing the Alhambra. Each turn reveals a hidden carmen, a centuries-old aljibe or a viewpoint where time seems to stop. In the Realejo, the old Jewish quarter, the street art of El Niño de las Pinturas lives alongside Mudéjar churches.
At nightfall, Sacromonte lights up its caves. The rhythm of a bulería echoes between whitewashed walls as the stars appear over the Darro valley. Here, flamenco is not a show: it is a way of breathing.
FLAVOUR AND TRADITION
In Granada, every drink comes with a generous tapa: a tradition that turns any walk into an improvised food route. From Iberian ham to Alpujarra-style migas, from remojón granadino to broad beans with ham, local cuisine is a map of flavours crossing mountain and fertile plain.
Start the morning with churros and chocolate near Plaza Bib-Rambla, explore San Agustín Market at midday and end the day with convent sweets from the Carmelitas. Here, eating is culture.
